X-Files : Ah Kong & Ah Ma Live On

X-Files : Ah Kong & Ah Ma Live On

Sk's hometown is near Tanjong Malim, on the border between Selangor and Perak, towards the northern part of Peninsula Malaysia. SK left his hometown in 1974 and came down to Kuala Lumpur to further his studies and thereafter stayed on to work and live in Kuala Lumpur.

Both SK's parents lived to a ripe old age before passing on to the next world.  His father died at 90 and mother was 88 when she expired. SK's brother and his family continued living in their old shophouse to this day. SK's brother has ten children and more than 10 grandchildren. Their ancestral home is an old shophouse, very large and very long, built during the pre-war period.

So, with 10 children and 10 grandchildren, the ancestral home is a constant hive of activities, day and night. More activities seem to happen at night because that's when the nephews, nieces and the grandnephews and grandnieces are back at home after school, work or play. These young people watched video or played games late into the night and till the wee hours of the morning, especially during weekends.

It was during one such occasion of late night activity, when the call of nature drew one of SK's  nephews, KT, to the back of the house where the toilet is located. As he stepped into the kitchen, lo and behold, he saw both Ah Kong and Ah Ma at the dining table. Ah Ma was standing, making a cup of Ah Kong's favourite drink while Ah Kong was seated, patiently waiting for Ah Ma to bring him his drink. It was such a nostalgic scene which he had seen countless times in the past when Ah Kong and Ah Ma were alive. He was stunned for a while and when he blinked and looked again, the scene was gone!

This nephew had had many more encounters with Ah Kong and Ah Ma, who puttered around the kitchen when he least expected it and it was usually during his nocturnal video watching late into the wee hours of the morning.

He shared his sightings and experiences with the family as he wanted us to know that Ah Kong and Ah Ma's spirits live on and that they often return for visits to the ancestral home!
