Ulu Yam is a small town in the district of Ulu Selangor in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It was there that the starchy noodle cooked with black vinegar was first concocted. It tastes a bit sour as black vinegar or any other vinegar for that matter is sour. It was initially called lor mee (卤面)but nowadays it is more commonly known as Ulu Yam Mee.
